How this crazy obsession got started . . .
For the record my name is Emette Massey. The time was spring of 1983. My US Navy enlistment was up so Uncle Sam politely spit out into the real world. I wandered around my hometown toiling at uninspiring odd jobs for several years. But nothing really ‘clicked’ with me, vocation wise. As a last dig effort I took a job selling vacuum cleaners door to door.
That led to better jobs in sales. Over the years I learned to sell everything from retail products to real estate and practically everything in between. Quite frankly, it was a great education and I made a good living.
As it would happen, one day I’m checking the classified ads and stumbled upon one in particular that stood out like a beacon on a dark night. I’m not really sure why, but it pulled me right in! The headline read, Make Money Selling Novelties. Work From Home. “Yeah, that sound pretty cool,” I thought.
The spark from that tiny classified ad led to a life-long obsession with the mail order business. Since 1986 I’ve been the head honcho, chief bottle washer and wearer of many hats for Mass-C Enterprises, a small mail order company that I started. I took what I had learned about selling and applied it to my mail order business. I started out selling novelties by mail and the rest as they say was history!
I’ve sold numerous products and services—everything from appliances to Zippo lighters all through the power of the written word (and some pretty good marketing). Selling via the written word has been an obsession that continues today.
These days I mostly offer copywriting and business consulting.
